Week 1: June 26th & 27th

Congratulations to the 7 Young BUCKS who met the learning objective for Qualification Week (2 Great Commandments & 10 Commandments)! For Fun & Fellowship on the following day... Alex, Reginald, Cedric, George, Georvis, KD and Josiah rode the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) to the Dallas Children's Hospital where they saw the nation's largest permanent model train display. The Young BUCKS were then treated to lunch at the Golden Corral in Irving.

The Learning Assignment for the Following Fellowship (LAFF ) is The Lord's Prayer as found in Matthew 6:9-13 (NIV) which reads:

 1. Our Father in heaven,
 2. hallowed be your name,
 3. your kingdom come,
 4. your will be done,
 5. on earth as it is in heaven.
 6. Give us today our daily bread.
 7. And forgive us our debts,
 8. as we also have forgiven our debtors.
 9. And lead us not into temptation,
10. but deliver us from the evil one.
*extra credit line*
11. For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

MEMBERS: Along with the 11 lines above, 4 additonal questions will be asked using material from Week 1. Again, feel free to print the material posted above to make it easier to study. For anyone who cannot print, a copy will be available upon request. Additionally, an audio recording of the lecture portion of each Tuesday meeting is also available to members and parents upon request. Minimum passing score required for Week 2's test: 75%

NOTE: All Scriptural quotes and tests are based on the New International Version (NIV) of the Bible. This is merely due to the fact that the NIV was the version issued to each Young BUCK needing a copy of the Bible. Any family member or friend desiring a copy can contact the YBC (info at bottom of blog) and one will also be made available to you.

Qualification Week: June 19th & 20th

I’d first like to say thanks to all who signed up for this year’s Young BUCKS Club. A total of 15 names were submitted with 12 participants being accepted. The program is a lot of fun for the youth and I pray that all are benefited and blessed in a number of ways.

The learning material and objectives for qualification week were the 2 Great Commandments that Jesus spelled out for us and the 10 Commandments we received from God through Moses. The 2 Great Commandments are found in Matthew 22:37-39, Mark 12:29-31, and Luke 10:27 and are as follows:

1st and Greatest Commandment:
“Love the LORD your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.”
2nd Greatest Commandment:
  “Love your neighbor as yourself

Jesus said that all the Law (including the 10 Commandments) is summed up with the 2 great commands above. Below are the 10 Commandments as the Young BUCKS will learn them. In parenthesis ( ) is the short version that will be acceptable for test purposes. Note: Reference the third commandment, God is called upon by various names (e.g. Yahweh, Jehovah, Yeshua, Jesus).

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS

  1. God comes first in your life. Put nothing else above Him (God is #1)
  2. Never give something the place in your heart only God should have (No Idols)
  3. Only use God’s name for good purposes (Don’t misuse God’s name)
  4. Set aside one day a week to rest and focus on the LORD (Honor the Sabbath)
  5. Respect and obey your father and mother (Honor your parents)
  6. Never murder (Do not kill)
  7. Do not take another man’s wife (Don’t commit adultery)
  8. Do not steal
  9. Do not lie about someone or for someone (No false testimony)
10. Don’t lust after something that belongs to someone else (Don’t covet)

MEMBERS: Always feel free to print out this material to make it easier to study. For anyone who can’t print, copies will be available upon request. Meanwhile, here is a link for a short cartoon on YouTube to help learn the 10 Commandments: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9K4q22kMzm4. Again, knowing the assigned material each week determines who qualifies for Fellowship and Fun on the following Wednesday. Minimum passing score required for Week 1's test: 70%
